Why extraction at a clinic is different from squeezing at home
Squeezing a spot at home pushes part of its contents downward as well as out. That ruptures the follicle wall beneath the skin, spreading inflammation into surrounding tissue — which is precisely how a temporary spot becomes a permanent indented scar.
Clinical extraction uses sterile instruments, correct pressure direction and prior softening of the plug, performed on skin that has been properly cleansed and disinfected. The difference is not comfort; it is whether you are left with a scar.

Who it suits — and who should avoid it
Suitable for comedonal acne (blackheads and whiteheads), mild to moderate inflammatory acne, congested or oily skin, and post-acne marks.
Not suitable for severe cystic or nodular acne, which needs medical therapy from a doctor before any extraction; extraction of deep cysts makes scarring worse. Also avoid if you are taking isotretinoin, have an active skin infection, or have open wounds in the area.
If your acne is severe, we will tell you so and recommend medical treatment first rather than sell you a facial.
Aftercare
- Expect redness for 6 to 24 hours; this is normal after extraction.
- No makeup for 12 hours.
- Do not touch or pick at the treated skin.
- No exfoliating acids or retinol for 3 days.
- Avoid sauna, steam and intense exercise for 24 hours.
- Daily SPF 30 or higher — freshly extracted skin pigments very easily.
- Sessions are usually spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart.
