Botulinum toxin is priced per 50 units. The number of units you need depends on the area treated and your muscle strength — your doctor will assess this and tell you before starting.

What is Botox and how does it work

Botulinum toxin type A is a purified protein that temporarily blocks the nerve signal telling a muscle to contract. When the muscle relaxes, the overlying skin stops creasing and dynamic wrinkles soften.

It treats dynamic wrinkles — lines that appear when you move your face, such as frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet. It is also widely used to slim a square jawline by relaxing the masseter muscle, and to reduce excessive underarm sweating.

It does not fill volume. If your concern is hollow cheeks, deep nasolabial folds or a flat chin, you need dermal filler instead.

Which brand should I choose

All five brands contain the same active molecule. The practical differences are purity, protein load, onset speed and price.

• Hutox — the most cost-effective option, well suited to first-timers.
• Nabota — the only Korean brand approved by the US FDA.
• Neuronox — a "naked toxin" with no complexing protein, which lowers the chance of developing resistance over years of repeat treatment.

Who it suits — and who should avoid it

Suitable for adults with dynamic wrinkles, a wide or square jawline, excessive sweating, or anyone wanting subtle prevention of lines in their late twenties and thirties.

Not suitable for people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a neuromuscular disorder such as myasthenia gravis, have an active infection at the injection site, or are allergic to any component. Tell your doctor if you take aminoglycoside antibiotics or blood thinners.

What happens at your appointment

1. Consultation — the doctor assesses your facial structure and muscle movement and agrees a unit count with you.
2. Vial check — we open the box and vial in front of you so you can verify the brand and expiry.
3. Numbing cream — applied for about 15 minutes if you want it.
4. Injection — performed by the doctor, usually 5 to 10 minutes.
5. Aftercare briefing — and a follow-up appointment at two weeks to assess the result.

When will I see results and how long do they last

You will notice the first softening at 3 to 5 days. The full effect settles at 2 weeks, which is when we review you. Results typically last 4 to 6 months, shortening slightly if you exercise intensively or have a fast metabolism, and lengthening with regular repeat treatment.

Aftercare

• Stay upright for 4 hours — do not lie down flat.
• Do not rub, massage or press the treated area for 24 hours.
• Avoid sauna, steam room, hot yoga and intense exercise for 24 hours.
• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours.
• Mild redness or small bumps at the injection points are normal and settle within a few hours.
• Contact us if you notice drooping of an eyelid or eyebrow, or any asymmetry that does not settle.
