PICO LASER

Pico Laser in Chiang Mai — Pigmentation, Acne Marks and Texture

Picosecond pulses shatter pigment into particles small enough for your body to clear, with far less heat than older lasers. That matters on Asian skin, where excess heat causes rebound pigmentation.

What Pico laser does differently

A picosecond is one trillionth of a second. Delivering energy in pulses that short breaks pigment apart by photomechanical shockwave rather than by heat.

On Asian skin this distinction matters more than anywhere else. Older nanosecond lasers rely on heat, and heat is exactly what triggers post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — the dark patches that appear weeks after treatment and leave patients worse off than before. Less heat means a much lower risk of that rebound.

What it treats

Pico laser does not treat redness left after acne (PIE). That is a vascular problem and needs a different device.

Who it suits — and who should avoid it

Suitable for most skin types including darker Asian skin, with energy adjusted accordingly.

Not suitable for pregnancy, active or inflamed acne in the treatment area, anyone who has taken isotretinoin within the last 6 months, active skin infection such as cold sores, or recent heavy sun exposure or sunburn.

What to expect

Numbing cream for 20 to 30 minutes, then 10 to 20 minutes of treatment. You will feel a snapping sensation like a rubber band flicking the skin.

Mild redness lasts a few hours. Darker spots may temporarily look darker and flake off over 3 to 7 days — this is the pigment leaving, not the treatment failing.

Most people need 3 to 5 sessions spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. Melasma typically needs ongoing maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Pico laser cost in Chiang Mai?

At Veluxe Clinic one session is ฿1,999, three sessions ฿2,999 with one free skin booster, five sessions ฿3,999 with two free skin boosters, and ten sessions ฿5,999 with five free skin boosters, which works out at about ฿600 per session.

How many sessions will I need?

Freckles and sun spots often improve noticeably in 3 sessions. Melasma is a chronic condition and usually needs 5 or more sessions plus ongoing maintenance and strict sun protection.

Is it safe on Asian skin?

Yes, and it is the preferred choice. Picosecond pulses work mechanically rather than thermally, which substantially reduces the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation that older heat-based lasers can cause on Asian skin.

Is there downtime?

Minimal. Expect a few hours of redness, and darker spots may look temporarily darker before flaking off within a week. Most people return to work the next day.
