How to read before-and-after photos honestly
Before-and-after images are the easiest thing in aesthetics to manipulate, so it is worth knowing what to look for — at any clinic.
- Same lighting. Softer, more flattering light on the “after” shot does most of the work in a dishonest comparison.
- Same angle and distance. Tilting the chin down and moving the camera up slims any jawline.
- Same expression. A relaxed face in the before and a slight smile in the after is not a result.
- Visible timestamps. If a clinic will not say how long after treatment the photo was taken, ask why.
- Consistent makeup. Bare skin before and full makeup after tells you nothing.
Our case photographs are taken in our own photo station with fixed lighting and marked floor positions, which is why the backgrounds look identical across every case.
